Fred was just an acquaintance in High Scheol.  But while at the UofU we spent a summer sail boat racing on this 16 foot wooden dinghy.  When conditions were right we would beat the expensive fiber glass sail boats, which was a true joy,  He was a ready friend to all,

Fred was one of the cadre of students in Mrs. Neilson's AP English class--Jill Mulvay, you were another. (Hi, Jill!) A lot of us went out of state (I'm in NM) and scattered. My favorite Fred story is that he and his dad both owned ancient little sports cars, the same make--Janguars, I think?--but only one set of wheels between them. Whoever wanted to go for a spin in their own car had to put the other one up on blocks. I just heard from Fred's wife, Sarah, that he died after six years with Alzheimers. Thinking of him warmly this day. www.betsyjames.com
